There's some different in the active ingredients index in these two pharmacopeias in CP & USP. In CP2015, the active ingredient of andrographis paniculata extract is andrographolide, the most/only index of this natural extract.The andrographis extract contains NLT95.0% and NMT101.0% andrographolide on dry basis by HPLC. While,in the USP, the active ingredients of andrographis extracts are diterpene lactones.USP calculated on dry basis as the sum of andrographolides, neoandrographolides,14-deoxy-11,12-didehyroandrographolides and andrograpanin, the andrographis extracts contains NLT90.0% and NMT110.0% of the calculated four ingredients.
Application:
In TCM both the herb andrographis paniculata/ andrographis extract are very effective to upper respiratory tract infection,some applied for liver support and in India, the androgarphis extract is strong to fight diarrhea. The USA talents generally apply it for dietary supplement for liver support, and immune strength and some for joints recover.
The herb andrographis paniculata
The herb androgarphis paniculata,is a small anual herb grows to between 30-90cm in height. It has many different names respectively in different language, In China-it is Chuanxinlian, In India-mostly Kalmegh, In Uk-Creat, king of bitters,Fa Thalai Chon in Thai. Andrographis herb is quite abundant in India and Guangxi,Hainan,Guangdong of China which with higher temperature and moist.The slender stem of andrographis herb is dark green, squared in cross-section with longitudinal furrows and wings along the angles. The lance-shaped andrographis leaves have hairless blades measuring up to 8 cm (3.1 in) long by 2.5 cm (0.98 in). The small flowers are borne in spreading racemes in purple. The fruit of andrographis paniculata herb is a capsule around 2 cm (0.79 in) long and a few millimeters wide which contains many yellow-brown seeds.
